Going mountaineering? Make sure you’ll be covered
If you love the great outdoors and want to take the adventure to the next level by going mountaineering, it’s important to understand whether your travel insurance will cover you while you’re climbing those mountain peaks. Mountaineering can be a high-risk activity and things can go wrong within a split second. Without suitable insurance that will cover you while mountaineering, you may find yourself left on your own if you were to have an accident or experience a medical emergency during your trek. What activities can I get cover for?
While we may not provide cover for mountaineering, we understand just how great it can be to get outdoors and enjoy the best of what nature has to offer while you’re travelling.
We don’t want you to miss out on the fun, so if you’re heading to a mountainous location and still want to embrace the spectacular scenery and impressive natural topography, there are still plenty of other activities you will be covered for.
When you purchase our travel insurance, you’ll be automatically covered to participate in a long list of leisure and sporting activities including:
- Assault course (no weapons)
- Bridge walking (only under guided supervision)
- Bungee jumping (up to a maximum of three jumps)
- Canoeing, rafting and kayaking (for grade one and two rapids or lower)
- Canopy walking or tree-top walking
- Hot air balooning
- Ostrich riding (does not include racing)
- Rambling
- Riverboat Cruising
- Safari
- Snorkelling
- Zip lining
- Zorbing.

Does PassportCard provide cover for mountaineering?
Our travel insurance covers you while participating in a wide range of activities, however, it’s important to be aware that our insurance does not provide cover for any mountaineering or outdoor rock-climbing activities using guides, ropes, rock climbing equipment, oxygen or where special equipment is used.
All benefits and covers are subject to the terms, conditions, limitations and exclusions listed in the Combined Financial Services Guide and Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) and on other policy documentation, including the schedule.
