Tips when planning a diving trip
Before you set off on your diving trip, here are some helpful pointers that will help you ensure the trip is everything you want it to be.
- If you’ll be travelling outside of Australia, check your passport is valid with at least 6 months of validity left from the date you plan to depart the destination
- Ensure you meet the visitor entry requirements for the destination/s you will be travelling to
- Research the region you will be travelling to so you’re aware of any potential safety or health risks
- Carefully research and choose a diving destination that matches your experience level and interests. Study the dive sites you plan to visit, including depth, currents, marine life and any specific guidelines or restrictions
- Research the various dive shops/centres at your chosen destination/s and book your dives well in advance, especially during peak seasons
- Ensure your scuba certification is up to date and appropriate for the type of diving you plan to do and remember to take your dive certification card with you
- Ensure you will have a dive buddy with you for each dive for safety purposes (noting that our travel insurance won’t cover you for solo dives)
- Keep informed about the local weather conditions, tides and currents and plan your dives accordingly
- If you will be taking your own diving equipment, ensure all your gear is in good working condition and is serviced before the trip
- Remember to pack a good underwater camera and diving log so you can capture and record details of the sites and marine life you encounter on your dives
- Work out what your accommodation arrangements will be well in advance (particularly if travelling as a group) as popular destinations can book out well in advance during peak season
- Organise your travel insurance with PassportCard.
